Move to Work

Eric and Alyssa Patterson

“There really is so much sunshine. You feel better when you go outside, and there’s immediately sun on your face." - Alyssa Patterson.

Eric and Alyssa Patterson moved to Medicine Hat from Ontario in July 2023. Alyssa accepted a position working at an optometry clinic, and soon after Eric found work with a local landscaping company.

The couple filled their summer experiencing live events, festivals, and road trips to the badlands and mountains. They found events through following local businesses on social media and joining the tixx.ca newsletter.

“There is a lot going on in Medicine Hat. We found the things we enjoy doing, and it was easy to meet people with similar interests,” says Eric.

Their favourite local spots so far are Badlands Training, Medicine Hat Brewing Company, Annegret’s Chocolates, and CREW Training. As they find more exploring the city, the two have noticed along the way how friendly and conversational people are.

“We were excited to move here when we visited, but it’s even better than we thought. Whenever we go to Ontario, we tell people we love it here,” says Alyssa.

“Everyone is so welcoming and nice anywhere you go, and it feels very family orientated here,” says Eric.

When friends visited, they attended the Medicine Hat Stampede to take in the rodeos, carnival food, and amusement park. At the Co-op Place, they’ve seen two cirque shows, and the hometown hockey Medicine Hat Tigers games is a go-to event in the winter.

And of course, the sunshine is a big reason the couple loves living in Medicine Hat.

“There really is so much sunshine. You feel better when you go outside, and there’s immediately sun on your face,” says Alyssa.
