"With Medicine Hat, I really like how it’s just a matter of asking someone something, because usually they know and are willing to help or lead you in the right direction.” - Tracy Tawiah.
Tracy Tawiah moved to Medicine Hat in April 2024 for a new career path in the small Southern Alberta city. Moving from a high population area like Toronto, Tawiah has enjoyed the quieter moments that come with living in Medicine Hat.
She is walking distance from a City Park, near the South Saskatchewan River with an abundance of wildlife. She feels the welcoming spirit from the community when people greet her as they cross paths.
“I really didn’t enjoy the hustle and bustle that came with living in a big city. It’s more calm here and having the park nearby to walk is so peaceful,” she says.
Tawiah’s commute for work went from a 45 minute journey to a six minute drive, giving her more time to participate in recreational activities in her free time. She was telling a work colleague how she used to play soccer but hasn’t for years. He recommended she join the local women’s soccer league.
“I plan to join this season. With Medicine Hat, I really like how it’s just a matter of asking someone something, because usually they know and are willing to help or lead you in the right direction,” says Tawiah.
The Connection Intercultural Association has been a great resource for Tawiah as she tries new things, meets new people, and familiarizes herself with Medicine Hat. Rise Up Hot Air Balloon Festival and Medicine Hat Stampede Parade are two highlights of experiences she’s had since she’s moved.
“Medicine Hat is very community focused. It has everything a big city has, but with those small city perks. The move here was worth it,” she says.
Move to Medicine Hat is actively supported by these lead community minded organizations, and made possible in part through funding / sponsorship.
